What is Bēkon?
Bēkon is a platform that connects individuals for dinners and events based on their personality, preferences, and interests using an algorithm. We operate through:
- Our website at https://bekon.app
- Our mobile app "Bēkon" (not yet available)
Agreement to These Terms
By using Bēkon, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree with any part of these terms, you cannot use our services.

Who Can Use Bēkon?
Eligibility Requirements
To use Bēkon, you must:
- ✅ Be at least 18 years old or the legal age of majority in your country
- ✅ Be an individual (not a business or corporation)
- ✅ Have legal capacity to enter into contracts
- ✅ Not be prohibited by law from using our services
- ✅ Have a clean record — no serious, sexual, or violent crimes (unless pardoned for non-violent crimes)
- ✅ Not be previously banned from Bēkon (unless we've authorized a new account)
If You No Longer Meet Requirements
If you stop meeting these requirements, we may remove your access without notice.

What We Don't Guarantee
- ❌ Specific gender ratios or age ranges at events
- ❌ Perfect compatibility with other participants
- ❌ Unique participants at each event (you may meet the same people again)
How Dining Works
Making Reservations
- Reservations are made only through our platform
- We cannot guarantee specific food options or dietary accommodations
- Restaurant allergies: We don't guarantee allergen-free environments
- Dietary restrictions: Review restaurant menus yourself — contact us if unsuitable
- Reservations have opening and closing times as shown on the platform
During Events
- Duration: Determined by participants
- Location: Restaurant address provided day of or day before event
- Guest policy: Only booked users are permitted — no unauthorized guests
- Food costs: Meals and drinks are at your own expense, not included in service fees
Pricing Expectations
- $ Up to $20 per person
- $$ $20–$40 per person
- $$$ Above $40 per person
Prices are estimates for main dish + non-alcoholic beverage, excluding appetizers, desserts, alcohol, taxes, and tips.
Cancellation Policy
Cancelling a signup
You may cancel a signup through the platform at any time. Whether you receive a refund depends on whether our matching process has already run for that event — see the Refund Rights section below for full details.
Late cancellations and no-shows
Once you have been matched into a dining group, the strangers in your group are counting on you to show up. We understand that life happens, but repeated last-minute cancellations and no-shows harm the experience for everyone else.
- Late cancellations — cancelling after you have been matched into a group — and no-shows — failing to attend an event you were matched into — both count against your account.
- Excessive late cancellations or no-shows may result in account warnings or suspension.

Payment Terms
Pricing
- Prices displayed on platform in local currency
- Promotions have limited validity periods
Payment Methods
- All payments — on both our website and mobile app — are processed by Stripe.
- Bēkon does not store your full payment card details.
- For refund requests and refund timing, see the Refund Rights section below.
- Service may be suspended for non-payment.
- Multiple payment options are available where supported by Stripe.
- Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled.
Your Responsibilities
Account Management
- ✅ Provide accurate information and keep it updated
- ✅ Keep login credentials secure — you're responsible for all account activity
- ✅ Report unauthorized access immediately
- ✅ Follow local laws and safety guidelines
Prohibited Activities
- ❌ Don't misrepresent your identity, age, or background
- ❌ Don't solicit personal or financial information from other users
- ❌ Don't use other users' accounts
- ❌ Don't share private information without authorization
- ❌ Don't create unauthorized third-party applications
- ❌ Don't make new accounts after being banned
Content Restrictions
You cannot share content that is:
- Offensive, abusive, or harmful
- Inappropriate or violates decency standards
- False, fraudulent, or misleading
- Unauthorized images of others (especially minors)
Violation of these rules may result in immediate account suspension.
Our Responsibilities
Service Quality
We strive to provide high-quality, reliable services with regular functionality checks.
We're not liable for:
- External network or server issues
- Equipment interruptions outside our control
- User configuration errors
Data Protection
We protect your information using:
- Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS for all traffic between your device and our servers)
- Access controls that limit who can view personal data, including IP-restricted administrative access
- Secure, reputable cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud) with industry-standard protections
- Payment processing through Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified provider — we never store your full payment card details
If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will investigate, take reasonable steps to address it, and notify you and any applicable regulators as required by law.
Content Moderation
As a hosting platform, we'll promptly remove illegal content when notified.

Your Rights

Image & Voice Rights
By attending events, you consent to:
- Being photographed or filmed
- Us using your image, name, and voice for promotional purposes
- This right lasts during your subscription + up to 10 years after
Intellectual Property
Our Rights
- The platform, software, and content belong to Bēkon
- Protected under intellectual property laws
Your License
- Personal, non-transferable license during subscription
- Private use only — no commercial use without written permission
Terminating Your Account
How You Can Cancel
Subscriptions:
- Cancel via platform at least 7 days before period ends
- No refunds for current periods
Tickets:
- Cancel anytime through the platform
- Refunds for cancelled tickets follow the Refund Rights section
How We Can Cancel
- We may terminate with email notification
- Immediate effect for violations of terms
Changes to These Terms
For Subscriptions
- 30 days notice before changes take effect
- If you disagree? Cancel before next renewal
For Tickets
- Changes apply immediately when published
- If you disagree? You must stop using the service
Continued use means you accept the changes.
Liability Limits
Our Limitations
- ❌ We can't guarantee accuracy of all platform information
- ❌ We're not responsible for restaurant food, service, or quality
- ❌ Our liability is limited to direct damages only
- ❌ Maximum liability: Total amount you paid in the 12 months before the issue
Your Protection
- ✅ Consumer protection laws still apply
- ✅ Nothing limits liability for fraud or willful misconduct
- ✅ Your statutory rights remain protected
Refund Rights
All Bēkon payments are processed by Stripe. We do not sell event tickets through the Apple App Store or Google Play, so refunds are handled directly by us — not by the app stores. Approved refunds are returned to your original payment method within 5–10 business days.
When refunds are available
- Before matching closes. You may cancel your signup and receive a full refund any time before our matching process runs for your event. Matching typically runs at the signup deadline, which is usually 24 hours before the event start time.
- Events we cancel. If Bēkon cancels an event for any reason (insufficient signups, restaurant unavailability, or anything else), you will automatically receive a full refund. No action required on your part.
- Unmatched signups. If you sign up for an event but our matching process is unable to place you in a dining group, you will automatically receive a full refund.
- Duplicate or erroneous charges. If you were charged more than once for the same event, or charged in error, contact us and we will refund the duplicate charge.
When refunds are not available
- After you have been matched. Once matching is complete and you have been placed in a dining group, refunds are no longer available. Your seat has been reserved and the strangers in your group are counting on you to show up.
- No-shows. If you do not attend an event you were matched into, your payment is forfeited. Repeated no-shows may result in account warnings or suspension, because failing to show up harms the experience of the people you were meant to dine with.
Something went wrong at your dinner?
Bēkon exists to serve our community, and we want to make things right when we can. If your dining experience was disrupted by circumstances outside your control — for example, the restaurant was closed, the venue was unable to seat your group, or something else clearly went wrong — contact us at contact@bekon.app with details of what happened. We review these requests individually and will do right by you when the situation calls for it.
How to request a refund
For automatic refunds (cancelled events, unmatched signups), no action is required — the refund is issued without you needing to ask. For all other requests, email contact@bekon.app with your name, the event date, and a brief description of your situation.
